Chicken Coop Plans - Step by Step

The 4 Most Important Things To Know Before Building Your Coop
How did I become interested in chicken coop plans?  Chicken keeping is quite a new hobby for my uncle.  His children love animals so he knew that if he bought some chickens they would be very happy.  Plus there would be lovely fresh organic eggs for the whole family.
There are people that make additional money by selling the fresh free range eggs of their chickens.  .  You may find that the chickens will 'earn' their keep if you sell some of the eggs..  This is a way to make some profit..

Upon looking to buy a chicken coop, my uncle saw that the prices were quite steep so felt he would benefit if he built his own chicken housing.  So he started to looking around for plans and designs for building his own chicken coop.
He was looking for chicken coop plans that were clear and easy to follow.  He also felt that the children would enjoy watching the plan unfold and be involved at every step.  It was really interesting learning that there were quite a few things to be considered for example he knew he would need certain materials, insulation and take into consideration such aspects as the ventilation, positioning and nesting etc.

Apparently, you need to ensure that the coup is well ventilated and has doors so you can keep the chickens safe at night and shut them in.  There is a need to keep chickens safe from animals such as racoons, chicken hawk, foxes and possoms.  You will also ned to ensure that the chicken wire is securely fastened to the coup for their safety.

Even deciding the bedding for the chickens was no easy task.  A few people said that sawdust is soft and makes great bedding, and that sawdust is easier to clean and will absorb the odor longer.  Some people are not so happy with this choice as the chickens can scratch the sawdust from the pen and may get the dust in their eyes..  Eventually, they decided that straw was easier to clean and felt this would work best for the chickens.

By following an easy plan, you can build your own coops, no matter what size,  for a fraction of the cost of buying a pre-packaged kit. You can often save as much as 50% of the cost of buying a chicken house by building  it yourself.  However, he didn't want a plan where he would have to buy tools, or else, he probably wouldn't save any mone.  So he wanted to be able to use the tools in his garage, such as hammer, drill and handsaw.

Uncle needed a step by step plan and some 'know how' on choosing the right breed of chicken for his needs.

So, if you would like to take advantage of some of his findings such as:

1.  Positioning your chicken coop to prevent flooding and moisture buildup.

2.  How to protect your coop from predators such as foxes, coyotes, cats, hawks and many more .

3.  How to build top class chicken housing that is easy to clean, even automatically collects eggs.
